SOUTHWESTERN CONNECTICUT AGENCY ON AGING

The Southwestern Connecticut Agency on Aging (SWCAA) is a private, not-for-profit corporation, established in 1974. As a designated Area Agency on Aging, according to the Older Americans Act of 1965, as amended, SWCAA is a funding source for federal and state dollars for the elderly in the fourteen town region of southwestern Connecticut.

Funding supports services such as nutrition, in-home, legal, health, adult day care/respite, transportation, senior centers and outreach/social support. SWCAA researches and evaluates elderly issues, offers community education related to the needs of the elderly, and serves as an advocate for older individuals. It is a resource for information and referral to services for older adults, such as health insurance, housing, and in-home care. The Agency administers the Statewide Respite Program and the National Family Caregiver Support Program for the region. SWCAA is also an "Access Agency", under contract with the State of Connecticut, Department of Social Services, to provide care management to clients who receive home and community based services through the Connecticut Home Care Program for elders.

To provide leadership and resources to meet the needs of the rapidly growing elderly population and to maintain and improve the quality of life and independence of older persons.
