FTD is sometimes used to mean a specific type of disorder, but is sometimes also used as an umbrella term that covers a number of related disorders, such as Pick's disease, corticobasal degeneration, frontotemporal dementia with motor neuron disease (FTD/MND) -- also known as ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or Lou Gehrig's disease) with dementia, frontotemporal dementia with Parkinsonism-17 (FTDP-17), progressive supranuclear palsy, and semantic dementia.
