About IOS Press
For over twenty years IOS Press has been servicing a variety of scientific and medical communities worldwide. Commencing its publishing activities in 1987, IOS Press now publishes about 100 book titles each year, with subjects ranging from computer sciences and mathematics to medicine and the natural sciences. We also publish some 85 international journals on a number of subjects.
IOS Press was established in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, in 1987. IOS Press Inc. in the Washington DC area (USA) followed in 1990 and shortly after, a co-publishing relationship was established with Ohmsha. Ltd. (Tokyo, Japan).
In 1996 IOS Press and Ohmsha re-established the Akademische Verlagsgesellschaft Aka GmbH in Berlin, Germany (www.aka-verlag.de). The first Aka book appeared in 1997, the first Aka journal in 1998. In 2000 Aka merged with the German publisher Infix, a publisher of books in artificial intelligence and other areas of computer science.
A joint venture between Science Press (Beijing, China), Ohmsha and IOS Press was established in Beijing in 1997, reflecting the ever-increasing importance of scientific research being conducted in China. The company publishes for the Chinese market and does typesetting work in world languages.
As of 1998, IOS Press also became the publisher for the NATO Advanced Study Institutes and Partnership sub series in the subject disciplines of Life & Behavioural Sciences and Computer & Systems Sciences. Now, we also publish the book series NATO Science for Peace and Security Series: Human and Societal Dynamics and NATO Science for Peace and Security Series: Information and Communication Security.
Since 2005 Delft University Press, a well-established Dutch university publishing house, is an imprint of IOS Press. The complete list of Delft University Press (www.dupress.nl) - which was built up by the scientific publishing house of the Technical University Delft over the last thirty years - consists of eight hundred titles in fields including architecture & design, engineering, physics and urban studies.
The IOS Press Books Online Platform was launched in 2006; many book series are available in electronic format on this platform. It is possible to obtain a single book chapter as well as the complete volume. For more information, visit www.booksonline.iospress.nl.
