Razadyne Side Effects

Loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea are some of the most common side effects reported with Razadyne. Side effects that are much less common (occurring in less than 1 percent of people using the drug) include nosebleeds, leg cramps, and vertigo. While Razadyne side effects are minor in most cases, some may require immediate medical attention, such as depression, seizures, or fainting.

Side Effects of Razadyne: An Overview

As with any medicine, side effects are possible with Razadyne® (galantamine hydrobromide); however, not everyone who takes the medication will experience side effects. In fact, many people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, they are often minor and either require no treatment or can easily be treated by you or your healthcare provider.

(This article covers many, but not all, of the possible side effects with Razadyne. Your healthcare provider can discuss a more complete list of Razadyne side effects with you.)

Common Razadyne Side Effects

Razadyne has been studied thoroughly in clinical trials. In these clinical trials, one group of people was given the real medication, while another group was given a placebo (a "sugar pill" with no active ingredients). This way, it is possible to see what Razadyne side effects occurred, how often they appeared, and how they compared to the group who took the placebo.

In these studies, the most common side effects of Razadyne included:

* Nausea -- in up to 24 percent of people
* Vomiting -- up to 13 percent
* Diarrhea -- up to 9 percent
* Dizziness -- up to 9 percent
* Loss of appetite -- up to 9 percent
* Headaches -- up to 8 percent
* Urinary tract infections (UTIs), such as bladder infections -- up to 8 percent.

Other common Razadyne side effects, occurring in 2 to 7 percent of people, included:

* Fatigue
* Shakiness
* Abdominal pain (stomach pain)
* Indigestion or heartburn
* Weight loss
* Insomnia
* Drowsiness
* Anemia
* Runny or stuffy nose.

Serious Side Effects Seen With Razadyne

Some side effects with Razadyne, while usually infrequent, are potentially serious and should be reported immediately to your healthcare provider. These include, but are not limited to:

* Fainting
* A dangerously slow heart rate (bradycardia)
* Depression
* Stomach ulcers or intestinal ulcers
* Difficulty passing urine
* Seizures
* Worsening of asthma
* Uncontrollable body movements or twitches
* Signs of an allergic reaction, including an unexplained rash, hives, itching, swelling of the mouth or throat, wheezing, or difficulty breathing.

Less Common Side Effects of Razadyne

There are other, less common Razadyne side effects that can occur. In studies, these side effects occurred in less than 1 percent of people taking the drug. For these side effects, it is difficult to tell whether they are actually caused by Razadyne or something else. There is a good chance that these "side effects" could be completely unrelated to Razadyne.

These less common potential side effects include, but are not limited to:

* A spinning sensation (vertigo)
* Leg cramps
* Ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
* Increased salivation
* High blood sugar
* Nosebleeds
* Increased libido (sex drive)
* Kidney stones.

Final Thoughts on Razadyne Side Effects

You may experience some or none of the Razadyne side effects listed in this article. Unfortunately, there is no way for your healthcare provider to know beforehand whether you will have side effects from a medicine that you have never taken. Therefore, make sure to let your healthcare provider know if you develop any side effects while taking the drug or if something "just does not seem right." While it may not be a side effect of Razadyne, your healthcare provider will be able to diagnose and treat the problem.
