At this time, we do not yet know what causes Alzheimer's disease. Researchers today believe there is no single cause of Alzheimer's disease. Instead, they believe it is caused by a combination of factors. In studies of identical twins (who share the same genes) it was found that about 60% of the overall risk for sporadic Alzheimer's disease comes from lifestyle and not genetics. There is still much that we don't know about the disease, but researchers continue to look for causes. Many risk factors have been identified. Other factors have been ruled out.
