Binswanger\'s Disease

-

Binswanger's disease is a rare form of vascular dementia in which damage occurs to the blood vessels in the deep white matter of the brain. Symptoms of Binswanger's most often occur in people over the age of 60 and it is usually associated with long-term hypertension. The disease mainly affects memory and mental abilities such as thinking and learning. The person may also experience mood swings, tremors, seizures and problems with walking. The cause of Binswanger's disease is unknown and there is no cure, although the person may be given medication - to control blood pressure or to treat depression, for example.
